Company

The Bolthouse family began commercial vegetable farming in western Michigan in 1915. From the very beginning, the company was known for quality and innovation. After more than 90 years of farming and distributing premium, fresh produce, Bolthouse Farms added a state of the art bottling facility in fall of 2002. This new facility allowed Bolthouse to produce premium quality beverages as well. In 2007, Bolthouse added another state-of-the-art facility to produce premium, refrigerated dressings.

It really is! We have big fields, lots of tractors, and specialized farming equipment.

Beverages

Flash pasteurization is a process commonly used to control spoilage and extend the shelf life of product. It helps to better maintain product color, flavor and nutrients compared to other pasteurization processes. Although the level of certain nutrients in the juice may be reduced, the final product retains most of the original nutritional value, and the food safety benefits greatly outweigh the nutritional impact.

We bottle our juice daily in our state-of-the-art bottling facility located in the San Joaquin Valley of California.

Yes! Our juice must be kept refrigerated below 41°F at all times.

To ensure the best quality product, we print a "Best Used By" date on each container to indicate the expected shelf life of a product. We recommend that the product be used prior to this date to ensure the best flavor, texture and overall quality.

Unopened, our products are good until the date printed on the bottle. Always check the label for information about product shelf life. Once the product has been opened, its quality will vary depending on many factors, including the temperature and location the product is stored. If the product label does not identify specific dates or times, the appearance and smell may indicate whether the product remains fresh. As always, when in doubt, throw it out.

Dressings

We choose to make our dressings with yogurt so we can make creamy dressings while limiting fat and calories.

Avocado Green Goddess, Honey Mustard, Classic Ranch, Salsa Ranch, Salsa Verde Avocado, Pomegranate Poppyseed and Honey BBQ Ranch

Since we use fresh yogurt as the base for our dressings, our dressings have less oil and fat than many other refrigerated creamy dressings. Oil and fat can limit the amount of water activity in a dressing, and thus act as preservatives.

No, none of our dressings contain any trans fat.

No, we do not use MSG in our dressings. MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a compound of glutamic acid and is used as a flavor enhancer.

No, our dressings do not contain any high fructose corn syrup. Our dressings are sweetened with one of the following ingredients: cane sugar, apple juice from concentrate, reduced acid pineapple juice from concentrate, raspberry juice from concentrate, or white grape juice from concentrate.

Currently, our dressings not contain gluten or gluten containing ingredients. Any source of gluten will be clearly labeled on packaging per FDA labeling regulations.

For several reasons. 1) Safety. Glass is heavier and can break much easier than the PET plastic used in our dressings. 2) Convenience. Plastic bottles are easy to lift, handle, and pour. 3) Better food safety for consumers. Glass bottles are not built to handle utensils, which are often used with dressings in jars. 4) Plastic is better for transportation. There are fewer broken bottles and less weight per bottle, so trucks can transport more bottles. As a result, we reduce the number of trucks on the road.

Yes. The bottles can be recycled anywhere that accepts P.E.T. #1 plastics.

Our dressings are available in the produce section of grocery stores across the United States and Canada. Please see our "Store Locator" for help finding stores near you.

Because our dressings need to be refrigerated at all times, we do not ship directly to consumers.

If you are a distributor or retailer, please contact us for more information. Our dressings are not available for shipping directly to consumers.

Please visit the "Dressings" section of our website for detailed nutritional information on both our Yogurt Dressings and Olive Oil Vinaigrettes.

We have a line of certified organic dressings and a line of non-organic conventional dressings.

Yes, due to the dairy ingredients in our dressings.

Carrots

We plant seeds bred for their sweet taste, small core, and optimal color/vitamin content. We harvest them while they're still young and tender.

We grow a special variety which yields a smaller, thinner carrot. They are harvested a bit premature, cut into 2 inch pieces and peeled. They are not made from a full size carrot. If you will compare the core of a full size carrot with the core of a baby-cut carrot, you can see a huge difference. The core of a baby cut carrot is very small, which usually means the carrot will be sweeter. They are not genetically altered.

Yes. They are washed and ready to be eaten.

No. The sweetness of our carrots is all natural.

No. Bolthouse Farms does not add any preservatives to its carrots.

Yes. Our carrots are chilled before they are bagged and they stay refrigerated until you buy them. We recommend keeping them refrigerated.

Our products are intended to be consumed fresh. We do not recommend freezing them.

Bolthouse Farms is one of the largest carrot growers and distributors in the U.S. As part of our growing approach, we provide locally grown carrots from Washington, Georgia, Florida, Eastern Canada and Arizona, in addition to California.

Because our baby-cut carrots are peeled, they are more susceptible to drying out and may turn white and chalky. Soak them in cold water for a few minutes to rehydrate them and the whiteness should fade.

No, we do not use any carrots that have been produced through biotechnology.

The use of small amounts of chlorine is a common practice used in the fresh-cut produce industry to kill harmful bacteria. The amount of chlorine in our carrot wash water is well within the limits set by the EPA and is comparable to levels found in tap (drinking) water. This process is a scientifically proven to kill any harmful bacteria and helps provide the safest product possible. Bolthouse Farms continuously monitors the chlorine levels and verifies those levels throughout the entire production day.

Since carrots are a root vegetable, they grow underground and need to be cleaned once harvested. The carrots are brought to the plant for a quick scrub and a water rinse for food safety. The water used to wash the carrots is made safe following strict FDA and EPA guidelines.
