Company

Q. How long has Bolthouse Farms been around?
A. The Bolthouse family began commercial vegetable farming in western Michigan in 1915. From the very beginning the company was known for quality and innovation. After more than 90 years of farming and distributing premium, fresh produce, we added a state of the art bottling facility in the fall of 2002. This new facility allows us to produce, not from concentrate, premium quality juice year around.

Q. Is Bolthouse Farms really a farm?
A. It really is. We have big fields and lots of tractors and specialized farming equipment. We never have to wonder who tracked all the dirt into the offices!

Juice

Q. What is "Flash Pasteurization"?
A. This process quickly heats the juice to kill potentially harmful microorganisms, and then quickly cools the juice to a chilly 35 degrees all in a matter of seconds. This unique form of pasteurizing our juice allows us to provide you with a safe product, without losing the wonderful fresh taste of the juice.

Q. What is cold sterile filled?
A. We use a patented cold, clean-room bottling process where, unlike most beverages, the bottles are actually made in a sterile environment just moments before they are filled. The room qualifies as a Class 100 Clean Room, ensuring that it is almost completely void of everything other than sterile air. Once made, the bottles are filled and capped within the clean room, ensuring the product is as safe inside the bottle as it was only seconds after it was flash-pasteurized.

Q. Where is your juice made?
A. We make our juice daily in our newly constructed state of the art bottling facility located in the San Joaquin Valley of California.

Q. Is your juice perishable?
A. Yes! Our juice must be kept refrigerated at all times.

Q. How long will your juice stay fresh?
A. Once the bottle is opened, our juice should retain its fresh flavor for approximately 7-10 days.

Q. Is there any vitamin loss during the juicing process?
A. Some nutrients degrade due to heat during the "Flash Pasteurization" process. Our cold sterile fill production method enables us to limit the amount of heat treatments during bottling, so you get the highest nutritional value, and freshest taste possible while still ensuring the safety of our product.

Q. Where can I recycle your bottle?
A. Bolthouse juice bottles can be recycled anywhere that accepts P.E.T. #1 plastics.

Q. Where can I find your product?
A. Bolthouse Farms beverages can be found in the refrigerated produce section of your local grocery store.

Q. Do your beverages contain gluten (a protein found in wheat and other grains)?
A. Our beverages are gluten-free.

Q. Why did you change your Vedge juice?
A. You talked and we listened. You told us there were vegetable juices out there with more vegetables in them. We are proud of the fact that we make beverages that are not only incredibly nutritious but that also taste great. So, when we started hearing from you, we knew we could be doing a better job. Because of you, the improved Vedge NOW has 10 delicious vegetables and 10 vegetables means better nutrition. In fact, more vitamin A, C, Folic Acid, lycopene and lutein.

Q. Do your beverages contain any GMO's (genetically modified organisms) or GEI's (genetically engineered ingredients)?
A. No. Bolthouse Farms beverages do not contain any genetically engineered ingredients (GEI's). We only use natural ingredients which have not been bioengineered or produced with biotechnology.

Q. Do you use MSG in your beverages? What is MSG?
A. No, we do not use MSG in our beverages. MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a compound of glutamic acid and is used as a flavor enhancer.

Q. Do your 100% juices contain added sugar?
A. No, our 100% juices contain only naturally occurring sugar.

Q. Does your Perfectly ProteinŽ Vanilla Chai contain caffeine?
A. Yes, a small amount. Perfectly ProteinŽ Vanilla Chai contains .13 mg of caffeine per serving.
(One cup of brewed coffee ≈ 115mg)

Q. Is Perfectly ProteinŽ Mocha Cappuccino or Perfectly ProteinŽ Hazelnut Latté made with milk containing rBGH (Recombinant Bovine Grown Hormone)?
A. No, Perfectly ProteinŽ Mocha Cappuccino and Perfectly ProteinŽ Hazelnut Latté are both made with milk free of rBGH.

Q. Should I be concerned about E. Coli in Green Goodness or Vedge?
A. No. Bolthouse Farms pasteurizes all of its premium beverages for food safety as well as shelf life purposes. These pasteurization time/temperature parameters are designed around FDA established pathogen kill requirements and FDA guided safety margins.

Q. What changes did you make to Blue Goodness?
A. Two formulation changes were made to Blue Goodness. The fiber source is mostly coming from Dextrin now with some from inulin. Before it all came from inulin which caused some gastrointestinal distress among sensitive individuals. The B-Vitamins have been reduced from 150% to 120% for a better fresh fruit taste.

Carrot

Q. Can I eat the carrots right out of the bag?
A. Yep. They're washed and ready to go.

Q. How are baby-cut carrots grown?
A. We plant seeds bred for their sweet taste, small core, and color/vitamin content. Then we harvest them while they're still young and tender. The rest of the credit goes to California soil and sunshine!

Q. Are the carrots really "baby" carrots or are they cut from larger carrots?
A. Surprise, we cut 'em! Immature carrots wouldn't have much flavor. Most of the flavor "sets" as they mature.

Q. Do you add something to make the carrots so sweet?
A. Nope, it's all natural, well, except we do have one farmer who talks especially nicely to the carrots.

Q. Do you add preservatives to your carrots?
A. No! We add nothing to our carrots. They are chilled before we put them in the bag, and they stay refrigerated until you buy them. Please keep them in your refrigerator!

Q. Can the carrots be frozen?
A. Yes, but if you do freeze them they will be soggy. You can still cook them after freezing.

Q. Where are the baby carrots grown?
A. California! If you're a carrot, California is heaven!

Q. Why do my carrots sometimes turn whitish?
A. They're just a little thirsty. Carrots are a root, and they either want to store water, or supply it. In the refrigerator, they try to supply it. Soak them in a bowl of icy water for a few minutes and they're as good as new!

Q. Are your carrots genetically modified?
A. No.
Dressings

Q. Why did you choose yogurt to make your creamy salad dressings?
A. Yogurt is naturally lower in fat and calories than mayonnaise, which is the leading ingredient in most refrigerated dressings. Yogurt is highly nutritious because it is a good source of calcium, protein, vitamins and minerals.

Q. Which flavors are Kosher?
A. Classic Ranch and Thousand Island.

Q. Why is your shelf life shorter than some other refrigerated dressings?
A. We use fresh yogurt as the base for our dressings, and include only all natural ingredients, so they naturally have a shorter shelf life. In addition, our dressings have less oil and fat than many other refrigerated creamy dressings. Oil and fat can limit the amount of water activity in a dressing, and thus act as preservatives.

Q. Do your dressings contain any trans fats?
A. No.

Q. Do your dressings contain MSG?
A. No.

Q. Do your dressings contain any added sugar?
A. No.

Q. Do any of your dressings contain gluten?
A. Only Caesar-Parmigiano.

Q. Why are your dressings in plastic instead of glass?
A. For several reasons:
  • Safety: Glass is heavier, and can break much easier than the PET plastic used in our dressings.
  • Convenience: plastic bottles are easy to lift, handle and pour.
  • Better food safety for consumers, because utensils are not intended to go inside the bottle, as happens with dressings in jars.
  • Plastic is better for transportation because of fewer broken bottles and less weight per bottle which helps us load more bottles onto each truck and thereby reduce the number of trucks on the roads

Q. Are the bottles recyclable?
A. Yes, the bottles can be recycled anywhere that accepts P.E.T. #1 plastics.

Q. Where can I find Bolthouse Creamy Yogurt Salad Dressings?
A. Our dressings are available in the produce section of grocery stores across the United States and Canada. Find a store near you with our store locator tool.

Q. Can I order direct?
A. Because our dressing needs to be refrigerated at all times we do not ship directly to consumers.

Q. Can I purchase in bulk or by the case?
A. If you are a distributor or retailer, please contact us for more information. Our dressing is not available for shipping directly to consumers.

Q. Where can I find nutrition information for the Creamy Yogurt Salad Dressings?
A. Click here for complete nutrition information.

Q. Are your Creamy Yogurt Salad Dressings Organic?
A. No. We are unable to source all of our ingredients from organic suppliers.

Q. Do you have coupons?
A. From time to time we distribute coupons to our retail customers. Look for coupons on bottles of Bolthouse Creamy Yogurt Salad Dressing at your local grocery store.

Q. Are your dressings all natural?
A. Yes, in fact every Bolthouse product is all-natural and contains NO preservatives.

Q. Do your dressings contain casein?
A. Yes, because of the dairy ingredients found in the product.

Q. How long will your dressings last after being opened? / Is it safe to consume past the BIUB (best if used by) date? / How long will it keep in the refrigerator?
A. Our dressings can be stored in your refrigerator up until the best if used by date. Once opened, our dressings will be safe to consume for 3 weeks or longer if properly cared for and stored.
